Learn to Sail: Stage 1

Timings

Our weekend courses consist of 6 x 3 hour sessions on Saturdays from 0930-1230

Teaching

All of our courses are taught by RYA qualified instructors in groups with a maximum ratio of 6 students to each instructor.   Teaching takes place  on the water and in the classroom and we move between the two depending on the group, the weather conditions and the requirements of the curriculum.

The Learn to Sail course at Queen Mary assumes that the student has not sailed before and is normally conducted in Oppies or Laser Bugs with 2 students in each dinghy. We focus on RYA Stage 1 of the Youth Sailing Scheme with each student attaining a level according to their own individual ability. By the end of the week, the student will have basic understanding of how a boat sails, and some experience of steering and handling a boat.
