RYA Seamanship Skills

Timing

This 2 day course runs from 09:30 until 17:00 both days, either over a weekend or on two consecutive Saturdays.

Teaching

You will see a real improvement in your doublehander helming skills and boat positioning, by focusing on manoeuvres and seamanship decisions. Manoeuvres include sailing backwards, sailing with no rudder or centreboard, anchoring, reefing afloat, recovery of a man overboard and being towed.

Prior to attending this course you should have comfortably mastered the skills learnt on the Level 2 and 3 sailing courses.

What to bring

 

  • We provide wetsuits and buoyancy aids although if you have your own you are welcome to use them. 
  • You should bring: swimwear (to wear under wetsuit), shoes you are happy to get wet, a towel, a change of clothes, suntan cream, a hat, and a water bottle
