RYA Level 1: Start Sailing

Timing

Course times for this weekend runs are 09:30 until 17:00 both days.

Teaching
All of our courses are taught by RYA qualified Instructors in groups with a maximum ratio of 6 students to each Instructor.   Teaching takes place on the water and in the classroom and we move between the two depending on the group, the weather conditions and the requirements of the curriculum.

The RYA Level 1: Start Sailing course at Queen Mary assumes that the student has not sailed before and is normally conducted in Laser Picos. After you have learnt to rig the boat and received an introduction to the boat's controls, the group will take to the water to experience for the first time what it's like to helm a sailing dinghy alone, under the close supervision of the RYA instructor(s).

By the end of the course you should have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge, and you will be awarded the RYA Level 1 certificate on successfully completing and understanding the modules of the RYA Level 1 syllabus on the National Sailing Scheme.
